The Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate Change was created to meet the ever growing environmental problems and adopting a new development model that will ensure better living conditions and create. The mission of the Ministry is to maintain and improve environmental quality, renewable natural resources, biodiversity and water resources, proper management of non-renewable resources and promote renewable energy, energy conservation, treatment, mitigation and Adaptation to climate change, urban regeneration, sustainable land use planning with respect to the architectural heritage, and coordination of environmental policies of the government.

Centre of Renewable Energy Sources

The Centre for Renewable Energy Sources CRES is the Greek national entity for the promotion of renewable energy sources, rational use of energy and energy conservation. In the modern demanding energy sector CRES is dynamically active, in the frame of the national and Community policy and legislation, for the protection of the environment and sustainable development. Working in the state of the art of technology development, CRES implements innovative projects and significant activities for the promotion and market penetration of new energy technologies.

National Observatory of Athens

The original part of the Observatory was designed by the famous Dane Architect Theophilus Hansen and was the first research Institution built in Greece (1842) after its deliberation from the Ottoman Empire. The Hill of the Nymphs was selected as the place to built the Observatory, a Hill famous from antiquity, where the Nymphs were worshipped and next to one of the famous Observatories of the 5th century, where Meto’s Heliotropion was placed.

National Center for Scientific Research “Demokritos”

The operation of the National Center for Scientific Research Demokritos, NCSR “D” began in the late ’50s as an independent public authority called for Nuclear Research “Demokritos”. In 1985 it took its current name and became self-governing public legal entities, under the supervision of the General Secretariat for Research and Technology Development Department.
